Band Bio
Thomas C. Duncan, Sr. Singer/Songwriter. Guitars, mandolin, banjo
Specialties: Forgetting lyrics and/or chords, rockin’ the cowboy hat.
Manning the vocal mic and tossing a variety of stringed instruments about the stage, the tall, skinny member of the group is Duncan. This former pastor and commercial fly tier writes 84West’s original material and takes on the task of flexing the golden pipes to deliver it. He is an avid outdoorsman and classic B-western fan, and holds the distinction of being born in the same state as the great Clint Black — New Jersey.
Gear: Washburn “Cumberland” Jumbo, Epiphone Sheraton, Washburn OM40 mandolin, Homebuilt Tele clone, Blackheart BH5H combo.
Danny Mogford. Guitars
Specialties: Dark shirts and stubble, driving amps and SUVs.
The designated axe-man of 84West picked up the guitar in high school… and hasn’t put it down since. Acoustic, electric, or combination thereof, Danny can handle it, and make sure everyone else is in tune, too. He is a Fender man with a love for high gain tube amps, and splits time between three bands, playing a wide variety of musical styles. This Seattle Seahawks fan is still convinced that his team won the Super Bowl in 2006.
Gear: Fender Telecaster Deluxe, Washburn P4, Peavey Valveking 112, Randall RM50, Breedlove AC250/SR
Tim Beck. Drums, Acoustic guitar
Specialties: Clever witticisms, rimshots, and mad dunking skills.
If there is a stringed instrument Tim cannot play, it is only because he hasn’t tried yet. Splitting time between skins and strings, Tim is always ready to lay down rhythms with style and flair. In addition to being willing and able to sell you a variety of medical software applications, he is a collegiate athlete, and a survivor of Hodgkins Disease. He was recently voted “Most Likely To Say “Da Bears!” by the entire band. Please follow Tim’s blog at www.fightinghodgkins.com!
Gear: Taylor 210 CE, custom Pearl drum kit
Andy Jenkins. Bass
Specialties: Shoegazing, random bear hugging, hiding.
As capable with a guitar as he is with a bass, Andy holds down the low end more than capably. His background in ranching makes that sweet country sound come straight from his heart, and his history of playing with bands since childhood gives him a repertoire that ranges from Hank, Sr. to Luke Bryan with everything in between — even Lynn Anderson. When he’s not on stage, he can typically be found working on home remodeling, or sitting in a duck blind.
Gear: MTD basses
Phyllis Beck. Keys, Piano.
Specialties: Class and dignity, band morale boosting, MIDI patchwork.
Our resident educator keeps the keys running and the rest of the band in line. Not only does she have extensive knowledge of ancient and modern church music, she also handles many of the technological details of shows, including most video responsibilities. Were it not for her presence, one can only guess how much trouble the guys would get into from show to show.
Gear: Roland keyboards, Crate amps.
